In this episode of the Book Magic Podcast, I’m sharing why the world still needs your book - even if others have written about it before. You’ll discover:

  • Why having similar books on your topic is actually a good sign!
  • How to make sure your book stands out in a sea of similar themes.
  • Examples of how different authors can bring fresh perspectives to popular subjects (e.g., the divine feminine and goddess energy)

By the end, you’ll feel empowered to keep writing, knowing your story is unique, your voice matters, and your book is medicine for the readers who are waiting for it.

Hi, beautiful friend, and welcome back to the Book Magic podcast. I'm so glad you're here today because we're talking about something that comes up for almost every aspiring author at some point. This little fear that whispers, but hasn't this already been written about before? Does the world really need my book? My take? My voice? If you've ever had that thought, I want you to take a deep breath with me right now and let it go. Because the truth is the world definitely, of course, needs your voice, and not just any book in general. Your book, the one only you can write. Even if you have already seen books out there on the same topic, or you've heard other people talk about books they are writing that are kind of similar to a book that you would like to write. It happens, right? We're all living in this collective experience together, and we're getting inspired by what's going on around us and how the world is changing, and the trends, and the shifts, and the way that we're all kind of evolving together as a collective, and then also as individuals as a part of that collective landscape. So here's the thing: the world needs your voice because nobody else has lived your exact life. Nobody else has gone through the same experiences with the same insights and with the same life stories. And nobody has come out of these experiences with the same lessons or takeaways that you have. And even if it is the same lesson that you're sharing in your book, the way you're going to deliver the reader to the moral of the story or that takeaway is going to be really different than anybody else. Your voice really matters because it carries your unique essence. I was an astrologer for many years, and I know for a fact that every single person on this planet is completely different. Very few people share the same exact birth chart, and even if they do, they weren't raised by the same parents or in the same location or the same socioeconomic background or education level. So your unique essence is really important. And the voice that you have as a result of this essence carries your way of expressing things, your stories, your heart. And that's really what readers connect with. Just think about it. There are thousands of books on meditation and motherhood and spirituality, but we don't stop writing them or reading them because, quote unquote, it's already been done. Each one of these resonates with a different reader at a different time, in a different way. Your book will be the one that lands in the hands of someone who needs your way of saying it, and that's why the world needs your voice. Also, think about yourself as a reader. I'm sure there are topics you are interested in, obviously, and you've read a book on those topics. And just because you like the topic doesn't mean you always resonate with the author. I have read spiritual books that everybody says is like the best book ever, and I just don't connect with it, either at all, or just at that time in my life. We want to read books from people we resonate with. So just because there's a book that's already out on a topic that you want to write about doesn't mean okay, it's been done, it's been said, and there's no need for anybody else in that space. Not by a long shot. I know that a lot of you out there have this fear that your idea has already been written about, and maybe a lot, and maybe by some really well-known people in your industry. And honestly, that's actually a really good sign. If there's a topic that's already been written about, it means there's a real need for it. There's a craving. It means that readers are hungry for more perspectives, not fewer. Nobody ever says, do we really need another cookbook or another romance novel? No, that's already been covered. We do not think that way because we understand that different authors bring different flavors, and that's exactly what you're doing too. Now let's talk about how to make your book unique, even if it is on a subject that feels a wee bit crowded. There are three things that make your book different. The first one is your voice and your style. You might write in a mystical, poetic way, or a practical, grounded way. That is already setting your book apart because there are so many different people on this earth. Some of them are more left-brained, some of them are more right-brained. And they need your unique way of speaking to help draw them in and help them understand that subject, thanks to your unique perspective. And that brings me to number two. The second thing that makes your book different is your perspective and your lived experience. What you've personally gone through can never be duplicated. Even if two authors write about goddess energy or the divine feminine, which is so popular right now for good reason, because we need it, one of them might be coming from more of a corporate burnout background, and the other from a lineage of medicine women. And another one, let's add a third author to this, coming at it from the viewpoint of relationships and balancing your feminine and masculine energy in relation to others. All of these are so valid. All of them are powerful, and all of them speak to very different audiences. And on that note, your book doesn't need to cover every base for every single person. It doesn't need to be the ultimate guidebook on all aspects of goddess energy or the divine feminine or whatever your subject is that you have in mind. Astrology or living in alignment or human design or channeling or whatever it is. Yoga. So sorry to interrupt, but if you know you're meant to write a book but you're not sure where to start, I've created a beautiful guided journey just for you. It's called Find Your Sacred Book Idea, and it will help you uncover the message only you can share and bring clarity to what truly belongs on the page. You can get started on your book right now at bookmagic.co slash sacred book. That's bookmagic.co slash sacred book. Let this be the first step in bringing your sacred book to life.

Let's get back to it. And this is where we get to the third thing that makes your book different.

SPEAKER_01

It is your audience focus. Who are you writing for? That book about goddess energy for spiritual entrepreneurs will look very different from one written for women in recovery or for teenagers finding their confidence. Or even for children, or even for men, can you imagine? The heart of the message might be really similar, but the application and the stories and the language will all be super unique. In one of my recent workshops, when I asked about people's book ideas, a lot of them did center around the divine feminine and stepping into goddess energy. So that's why I keep bringing that up. And you know what? This is not a problem, because one author might write a guide on bringing goddess energy into business, another might write intimate memoir stories about healing through self-love, which would be so beautiful. And another might explore goddess archetypes alongside astrology or creativity. So my point is, even though there are so many books out there that might share the same theme and the same shelf in the bookstore, even, each one is gonna find its own readership. And there might be crossover. Instead of seeing being similar as a weakness, I really want you to see it as proof that you're entering a conversation that already exists, which means there are people who are already really interested. Readers don't usually stop at one book on a subject. They read multiple books on the same topic to get a fuller picture, or to be their companion as they're moving through a shift or transformation in their own lives. Often we read books because we just want to have that extra voice in our head that helps guide us along the pathway that maybe not a lot of other people around us are walking. You know that quote that you're the average of like the five people you spend the most time around? You can add the author of the book you're currently reading to that because you're naturally gonna pick up on their voice and their ideas and their philosophy and embed that into your own life. And so oftentimes people will read book after book on a similar subject because they want to become more like that. They want to have more of that energy in their lives to infuse it in their way of being. So your book doesn't have to be the only one on that subject to be important. It just has to be yours. And the readers who are meant for you and your angle will find it. So, my love, here's your invitation today. I really want you to journal on this question. If I were to write a book about a subject that many others have already written about, or even at least one person, what would make my version unique? And just let your answers flow. Maybe it's your stories, your tone, your background, or it's the specific people you're writing for. There's always something that makes your version stand out. It could be the structure of the book, maybe you're writing short essays or short stories, or long chapters with lots of case studies about real people's stories, including your own. There's so many different ways to come at this. So that journal question again is if I were to write about a subject that others have already written about, what would make my version unique? And if you want support in really clarifying that, so your book not only feels aligned with your soul, but it also stands out in the very busy book marketplace, that's exactly what we do inside Book Magic. In our mastermind will help you shape your idea, strengthen your voice, find your flow, and really create a book that your ideal readers can't wait to pick up and read the whole thing. You can learn more about joining us inside the Book Magic Mastermind by heading to bookmagic.co slash mastermind. But let's close with an affirmation together. You can even place a hand on your heart as you say it with me.
